Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park

The Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park was another free tour that we decided to partake in while we were in Carlsbad, California.  Looking at the description online, I wasn't sure what to think.  Would it be fun for my 14 and 4 year-olds?  Interesting?  A dud?  The only way to find out was to go.  I knew from the pictures on the web site that the scenery would be beautiful.  The weather was perfect.  It would get us outside for a bit. So, off we went.

We had a docent-led tour of the grounds.  My photos don't do the grounds justice at all.  My photos make it look dusty and sort of bleak, which could not be further from the truth.  The Park is available for rental, and actually was hosting a wedding reception near the pool.

There were some film memorabilia and other artifacts from Carrillo's career and life in several of the buildings.

By far, the two biggest hits of the tour, especially for my youngest, were the barn and the albino peacock.

Would we go again?  Mmmm...probably not.  Once is enough, unless we happened to be there during one of the many seasonal special events they host.  Was it worth going to this time?  Yes.  It was free and something different.
